R. L. Copple continues adding chapters to his “How to Make an Ebook: Using Free Software” by proceeding to step 4, formatting and adding your ebook to Smashwords.
A while back I wrote a blog article on how to prepare a document for Smashwords using the “nuclear” option but still retain the basic formatting like italics and bold text. Admittedly that is a long and tedious process, though not nearly as tedious as reformatting your novel.
Because of that, I intended to eventually create a macro in Word that would automate some of those tasks.
The big tip I’m wanting to give involves how to retain the formatting of your book, primarily italics, centering, and bolding. Why is this needed?
Smashwords is picky about the formatting of the text. They want a Word doc file, with the body text in the “Normal” style (Word’s default). There are two ways of doing this.
